THE ALFRED HITCHCOCK HOUR

Alfred Hitchcock was already a renowned film director with more than 45 films in more than three decades when he came to television in 1955 with “Alfred Hitchcock Presents.” The TV show brought him from behind the camera into the living room, and his droll monologues at the beginning and end of each show made him a star in his own right. His silhouette and the show’s theme music, “Funeral March of a Marionette,” became forever tied to his character. The show was originally a half-hour, but was expanded in 1962 and renamed “The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.” This poster heralded the longer format in the “Hour’s” first season. The show ran from 1955 to 1965, the last new episode airing on June 26, 1965.
