THE MUNSTERS

“The Munsters” ran from 1964 to 1966, a sitcom revolving around a family of monsters living in suburbia. The family themselves never seem to realize that they are different than other families. Their appearances are similar to the classic Universal Monsters, which was convenient since Universal owned this show as well. It ran at the same time as “The Addams Family,” another gothic-horror sitcom, but the tone and theme were different, with “The Munsters” consistently receiving better ratings of the two. The show lasted two seasons, losing ground to the new show “Batman,” which was shot in color. The irony is that “The Munsters” was originally to have been shot in color, but the makeup and costuming were considered too ghoulish and scary for children in color.
